Open Optical Transport Solution
Driven by explosive AI adoption and accelerating digital transformation, global network demands are rising at an unprecedented pace. WAN traffic is projected to grow dramatically, while enterprises face increasing pressure to deploy agile infrastructure, manage complexity, and optimize energy use. As organizations invest heavily in DX initiatives and confront visibility challenges across expanding networks, the need for smarter, more scalable optical solutions becomes critical. At the same time, sustainability goals are reshaping priorities, requiring reduced power consumption and lower emissions. In this context, optical networks must evolve beyond capacity expansion—becoming a foundational enabler of performance, efficiency, and a sustainable digital future.

The Evolution Toward an AI-Powered Society
As artificial intelligence rapidly evolves from a computational tool into a trusted human partner, society stands on the brink of a transformative era. AI is no longer just enhancing efficiency—it is unlocking the true potential of individuals and reshaping how we live and work. This shift is accelerating demand for advanced digital infrastructure, particularly across distributed data centers spanning urban and suburban environments. To support this future, networks must become more open, intelligent, and fully optical. By enabling dynamic optimization of data flows and workloads, next-generation optical networks will play a pivotal role in realizing a connected, adaptive, and AI-driven society.

Open optical transport products (SpectralWave® WX Series)
NEC’s SpectralWave WX Series is an open optical networking portfolio built to work with partner applications and multi-vendor whitebox ecosystems. The lineup includes a WX controller (WX-C), Open ROADM platforms (WX-D/WX-S/WX-E), Open Transponders (WX-T) supporting 400G and 800G, and pluggable modules. NEC complements the products with end-to-end services—planning, design, integration, managed service, and maintenance—to accelerate deployment and operations. The approach is fully disaggregated and modular: customers can “pick what you need,” scale with a pay-as-you-grow architecture, and mitigate supply-chain risk through multi-vendor options and SI support. For optimized data-center operations, NEC highlights a world-first Linux-based NOS for MUX/TPND with server-like operability, TIP MUST controller support for programmability, and plug-and-play, zero-touch provisioning. Sustainability is addressed through solutions for greener AI datacenters, hardware longevity via sustainable module upgrades, and network/power optimization services.

NEC Network Operating System – TIP Gold Badge Awarded
NEC Network Operating System (NEC NOS) – part of our NEC Open Networks solution suite – is designed to meet communication service providers (CSPs)’ evolving needs and leverage an open ecosystem of industry leading network and software suppliers.
- High Availability CSPs can install their choice of application and software on ODM-supplied White Boxes and build a system to operate continuously and seamlessly. - Cloud-Native CSPs can manage customers' needs with a cloud-native approach, enabling them to increase or decrease bandwidth and add applications and hardware on demand. - Automation Thanks to Open API, CSPs can deploy automation on their network, lowering OPEX and energy consumption, and improving their sustainability with a life cycle management.
White-Box transponder products
Both the Line and Client ports of these products are pluggable, and the optical module can be selected according to the customer's application.
We provide open source based NetworkOS, base unit, optical modules, software and integration services based on the customer's request.
